Read Up!

It's the holiday season for me aka school vacation and I'm starting to catch up on my reading. I love to read and I feel that it is a privilege to be able to read and write. I am literate in both English and Chinese. But I am hungry for more than just two languages, I hope to understand basic Cantonese and Korean language so I can travel when I'm a little older and do some effective bargaining when doing some shopping over there muahaha!

If you're unable to purchase new books, why not consider borrowing books from National Libraries?

Book 1: TEEN VOGUE FEBRUARY 2014
Honestly, any young lady in the world would have had a thought of wanting to become a model of a magazine cover.
Cue The Pussycat DollsWhen I Grow Up "When I grow up, be on TV.People know me, be on magazines."

That's right. So reading Teen Vogue was like feeding on my childhood dreams. Anyways, I learnt a couple of interesting and useful tips. An example would be from Clare Brown Meneely,a manager of social media and digital communication for Maybelline New York who shared 3 social media tips which I personally find it really helpful .

1. Start a conversation.
2. Have a distinctive voice.
3. Positivity rules.

I learnt that I should ask myself why I am caring, why am I sharing before I actually share a piece of news or information or even an idea online. I hope to be able to type out positive encouragement that might cheer up someone's day and to be able to jot down fond memories of my teens on this internet diary.

Book 2: Reader's Digest August 2014
A 160-pages magazine filled with inspiring stories and hilarious jokes that enrich my life with knowledge and laughters at the same time. There are so many articles which I personally loved, but one stood out from the rest and it is titled "Questions that will save your relationships" written by Glennon Melton from The Huffington Post.

Basically it starts out with a busy mom with 3 kids narrating how her husband sets out for work every day and returns home each evening asking "So! How was your day?" and this sparks the interest of looking at the profound difference between the husband's experience of a "day" and the wife's experience of a "day".

Moving on, they went for therapy treatment and that's where they learnt to ask each other better questions that convey feelings and not just merely answering empty questions. They started asking each other "What did I do today that made you feel appreciated? What did I say that made you feel unnoticed? How can I do to help you right now?"

Another mind blowing part was where they changed the questions they usually ask their kids which was "How was your day?" to "Did you feel lonely at all today? Were there any times you felt proud of yourself today?" I am so intrigued by this. I should ask my kids these questions when I become a mom in the future.

Lastly, questions to our friends shouldn't always start by the typical "How are you?" because they don't know it either too. Rather why not try asking "How is your mother's latest treatment going on? How was the field trip you went with your school last week?"

I learnt that "Questions are gifts. It's the thought behind them the receiver feels."
"Life is a conversation. Make it a good one."

Book 3: Forbes Asia August 2014
It is pretty cool to read about Singapore's 50 Richest because this shows that Singapore is progressive country whereby several famous people from sources such as social media, investments and real estate would make Singapore as their home and actively build on our economy.

As I grow up, I am being exposed to more financial stuff and learning how to calculate interest. Engineering Cost Decision module was a really helpful module, thank you RP!  Like it or not, it is definitely worth your time to read up the many stories where the richest people you know started out from their humble and hard working beginnings to where they are right now.

After Us by Wong Fu Productions

I always love the short films done by Wong Fu Productions because they are so creative in making films that people can relate to and each of their video is compacted with its own meaning. Their casts are superb and natural in their acting and that just draws me to watch the video till the end.

I first got to know Wong Fu Productions was when I chanced upon 'When It Counts' a web series. I was totally engrossed in their romantic short films and also had a great laugh in their comedy sketches.

Behind "After Us"
An interesting process of their shooting and I find it cool~

~ Weak by Daphne Khoo ~
Even the strong cry
when no one’s looking
we try not to be scared on the outside,
but I know that there’s strength from the fall,
it’s not weak, to be weak at all.
