I saw the HEADHUNT booklet [ March 20 - April 2 ( 2014 Edition ) < Issue 149> ] laying in the living room floor while I was diligently doing my sweeping on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Curiously, I picked it up and browsed through it.
An interview titled " A VIEW FROM THE TOP " by Margaret Lim caught my attention. The interviewee was Jo-anne Loi, the General Manager, Marketing, Eurokars Group. It was a good read for me because it sparked new understanding and made me re-think my perspective of several stuff.
- Tell me the difference between GOOD and EXCEPTIONAL.
"If you are GOOD, you merely do what is expected of you and achieve what you have set out to do. An EXCEPTIONAL performance is when it is out of the ordinary, exceeds expectations, and achieves more than it sets out to do. This unexpected performance is worth remembering and emulating."
I am definitely blown away by Jo-anne's statements. I felt that I've been slapped on the face with a honest truth. What separates a GOOD from an EXCEPTIONAL -> whether you really want to surpass your basic expectation and decides to set out to achieve more than you planned to do.
It urged me to re-set my view on how whether I want give an exceptional awesome work or just have it as an average, good work which might not even encourage others to imitate and learn from me.
2. What is your definition of a LIFE-LONG LEARNER?
"A life-long learner is one who never rests on his laurels and consistently seeks improvement in his personal life and career. He is humble and open to take on criticisms and is not afraid of failure. To him, life is a journey to gain new experiences and not just to strike things off a checklist."
What is to rests on one's laurels? It means for one to sit back and relax your efforts. As much rest we human beings still physically need, we are encouraged to NOT let rest make us lazy, because being lazy stops us from reaching our full potential, furthermore it can restricts us from doing greater things.
Proverbs 10:4
Amplified Bible (AMP)
" He becomes poor who works with a slack and idle hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich."
Good News Translation (GNT)
"Being lazy will make you poor, but hard work will make you rich."
